How It Works
Yes. This course is fully approved by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR). The DE-964 certificate you receive is accepted at all Texas DPS offices for your road test and license application.
It depends on your age:
- Ages 18-24: Yes, Texas law requires completion of a 6-hour adult driver education course before you can take the road test.
- Ages 25+: No, it's not required by law. However, most adults without formal training fail the DPS road test. This course teaches you exactly what the examiner will test.
It's self-paced. Most students finish in 1-3 days. You can:
- Complete all 6 hours in one sitting (if you have the time)
- Spread it out over several days or weeks
- Take breaks anytime — your progress is automatically saved
This is critical for 18-24 year olds:
- You must get your learner license first (take the written test at DPS)
- You must hold it for at least 24 hours before taking your road test
- You can practice driving during those 24 hours (no minimum hours required)
We explain exactly how to schedule both DPS appointments back-to-back to get your license as fast as possible.
3 simple steps:
- Get your certificate — We provide your DE-964 certificate instantly (digital copy)
- Go to DPS — Bring your certificate to schedule or take your road test
- Get your license — Pass the road test and receive your unrestricted Texas driver license
For ages 18-24: You must also complete the learner license step before the road test (see question 4).
You can retake it. DPS charges a small fee for each retake. Your DE-964 certificate does not expire quickly:
- Ages 18-24: Valid for 90 days
- Ages 25+: No expiration
You do not need to retake this course if you fail the road test — just practice more and try again.
