Impact Texas Drivers (ITD) Course: 2026 Completion Guide

You finished your classroom hours and driving practice. You’re ready for the road test. But do you have your ITD certificate?

Many people forget this free, required step. Do not be one of them.

What Is the ITD Course?

It is a free video course from the Texas DPS about distracted driving. You watch, then answer a few questions. You cannot fail.

Which Version Do You Need?

  • ITTD (Teens, under 18): 2 hours
  • ITAD (Adults, 18+): 1 hour

Pick the right one. Teens cannot use the adult version.

The 90‑Day Rule (Very Important)

Your certificate is valid for only 90 days. If you do not take your driving test within that window, you must watch the whole course again.

Smart move: Complete ITD after you schedule your DPS test, about 1‑2 weeks before.

How to Complete ITD

  1. Go to the Texas DPS ITD website (.gov).
  2. Choose the correct version.
  3. Register with your exact legal name (match your permit).
  4. Watch the videos (can pause, resume later).
  5. Answer the review questions.
  6. Download and print your certificate immediately.
  7. Bring it to your DPS road test.

Common Mistakes

  • Taking the wrong version
  • Name mismatch on certificate vs. permit
  • Losing the certificate
  • Waiting too long – then certificate expires

What to Bring to DPS on Test Day

  • ITD certificate (print it)
  • DE‑964 certificate (teens)
  • Learner permit
  • Vehicle insurance proof
  • A licensed adult (21+) to drive you

Quick Checklist

  • ITD certificate (within 90 days)
  • DE‑964 certificate
  • Learner permit
  • Insurance & vehicle

Final Tip

The ITD course is free and easy. Do not let it be the reason you get turned away at DPS. Finish your driving practice, schedule your test, then take ITD 1‑2 weeks before. Print the certificate and put it in your car.
